Las inteligencias múltiples hacen referencia a un modelo de pensamiento que plantea la existencia de un conjunto de capacidades y habilidades, que pueden ser desarrolladas por las personas en función de factores biológicos, personales y sociales.

Este planteamiento fue publicado por primera vez en1983 por el profesor Howard Gardner, psicólogo, investigador y profesor de la universidad de Hardvard, especializado en análisis de las capacidades cognitivas.

Inteligencia lingüística-verbal

Tiene que ver con un desarrollo eficiente de la función del lenguaje y una marcada destreza para leer, escribir y comunicarse de forma oral.

Los periodistas, escritores, oradores y personas cuyo trabajo implica dirigirse a una gran cantidad de personas (como los pastores religiosos), responden a este perfil.

Inteligencia lógico-matemática

Se expresa con una destreza para solucionar problemas abstractos que pueden estar referidos a la matemática, la lógica o la geometría. También se manifiesta con una habilidad para encontrar patrones numéricos.
Los científicos y las profesiones u oficios que requieran una alta capacidad para resolver problemas numéricos (contadores, economistas, etc.) suelen tener este perfil.

Inteligencia espacial

Es la capacidad de crear imágenes mentales y proyectarlas en la realidad, bien sea mediante bocetos, maquetas, etc. También tiene que ver con un sentido de la orientación en el espacio.

Los arquitectos, diseñadores gráficos, dibujantes, paisajistas son profesionales que podrían encajar en este perfil.

Inteligencia musical

Se presenta como una habilidad para tocar instrumentos, cantar, entender y crear música.

Es el perfil de los músicos, cantantes y profesores de música.

Inteligencia kinestésica

Es la habilidad para el movimiento consciente, es decir, para el uso eficiente del cuerpo en áreas que así lo requieran. Esto implica la coordinación ojo- mano, el sentido del equilibrio, la rapidez y la flexibilidad.

Los bailarines, gimnastas y deportistas tienen este tipo de inteligencia muy desarrollada.

Inteligencia extrapersonal

Se refiere a la capacidad para relacionarse con el otro de manera eficiente y saludable, identificando las necesidades de otras personas y siendo empático ante ellas.

Una persona con un profundo autoconocimiento tiene mayores capacidades de afrontar los retos de la vida y de evaluar los problemas y oportunidades de una forma más objetiva.

Inteligencia naturalista

Es la destreza de algunas personas para establecer nexos o relaciones entre elementos de la naturaleza que pertenecen al mismo grupo. Tienen una marcada afinidad por la naturaleza, por la observación de plantas o animales y por su conservación.
Los biólogos y en general, las personas interesadas por la naturaleza tienen este tipo de inteligencia.
